We are often in awe of how God has inspired a person like David through music, specifically christian rap, so when he approached Nova Vista Photography requesting professional lifestyle photos, we knew we wanted for him to look his very best, especially when he is invited to perform in concerts, to use in promotions and for him to share on social media. Everyone has a story to tell, and we are sometimes given the opportunity to photograph individuals we not only esteem for who they are, but respect dearly for the life-story they narrate. David is one of those individuals who is an avid rapper, composer and lyricist, telling stories of how God has guided him through different stages in his life. This creates for many Spanish listeners a connection to what one may be experiencing by putting into songs, a plethora of feelings or thoughts anyone can identify with.

Keeping it simple

We are very excited to share with you a little about him and his work, as well as share with you some of our favorite photos of two outdoor locations we chose in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. Outdoor male portrait photography looks best at simple locations. We chose for one of the locations a rooftop overlooking the city, and the second location is actually at a few streets where we identified backgrounds that would enhance the look we were going for without being too distracting.

Two locations, two days

As you can imagine, taking pictures outdoors has one big component we cannot control, the weather. In half of these photos, you cannot tell but David was actually freezing and we lasted less than one hour at the parking lot and another 25 minutes on the street. We were pregnant with Ethan and didn’t want to continue to be outside so mom went back to the car to stay warm and dad took over taking the photos and directing the poses you can do at a parking lot and on the street.

We agreed to continue the shoot on a warmer day which we are so thankful we did! The second photoshoot day was at a beautiful park with train tracks. Here David was able to change into different outfits and we instructed our model with more poses and gestures he does when he is on stage raping.

Get ready for what’s coming next

On our drive back home, we listened to his music and little did we know that one song in particular would be touching our lives in a way we did not expect just a few weeks after when our beautiful baby boy Ethan would go to heaven. As we learn to cope with our loss, listening to encouraging music like “A Better Place” (Un Lugar Mejor) by David Sound and Camil Cordoba, have helped us like it has for so many, to get through the grief of losing a loved one. In their music video, you can see photos of David’s brother who went to heaven at the end of 2020, and inspired David to write this powerful song.
